It is estimated that Kefalonia has been inhabited since 10,000 B.C., when it was divided into four distinct and autonomous democracies that comprised the "Kefalonian Quadrapolis" (Sami, Krani, Palli, and Pronnoi). The names of these four city-states are believed to have been derived from the names of the mythical Kefalos' four sons. Today, Pronnoi occupies the northeastern part of the Elios Pronnoi Municipality. The Elios region lies on the southeastern side of the municipality and owes its name to the Mycenaean hero Elios, who, according to Greek mythology, shared the rule over Tafos Island with Kefalos. Among the most significant archaeological finds in Kefalonia tourism is the Mycenaean tomb found at Bortzi in Tzanata Village. This vaulted tomb from the Mycenaean era proves the existence of a significant Mycenaean center and is reasonably connected to the search for the geographical location of the Homeric Ithaca. Other notable sites of archaeological interest include the Temple of Apollo, located at St. George's chapel in Skala, which dates back to the 6th century B.C., and the Roman villa in Skala, famous for its fabulous mosaic floors.

Southeastern Kefalonia's natural environment offers unexpected sensations year-round, making it a prime destination for Kefalonia tourism. The landscape is dominated by color: Mount Aenos, with its dark green hues, the sea's turquoise blue, and the incredible shades of bushes and vegetation that change with the seasons. In the Elios Pronnoi region, cypress trees, evergreens, oaks, orchards, streams, natural springs, and ravines are surrounded by soft wooded hills adorned with colorful bushes and aromatic herbs, leading to the stunning white pebble beaches of the Poros area. Aenos, Kefalonia's famous mountain, stands as the island's vast natural museum. As the fifth highest mountain on a Greek island and one of Greece's ten national parks, Aenos serves as southeastern Kefalonia's natural border. This area is especially blessed with a variety of beautiful beaches. Every sea lover's wish is fulfilled here: endless sandy beaches, shores paved with sparkling white pebbles, dreamlike secluded coves and inlets, and transparent waters, all competing to capture the visitor's undivided attention and become the highlight of their holiday memories. Additionally, the region is home to historical sites, including the Mycenaean tombs in Kefalonia, adding a layer of cultural richness to the stunning natural beauty.
